What is ANA?

ANA is an association, a Non-Governmental Organisation, established in 1971. Its objectives are the ones highlighted below and ever since its establishment, ANA has been involved in environmental education work, adivice of environmental regulations to policymakers and denouncing breaches of those regulations.

ANA works in the whole of the Asturian territory and areas set in the boundaries of Asturias.

The Asociación Asturiana d'Amigos de la Naturaleza (Asturian Friends of Nature Association, ANA©) was established in 1971 with the aim of protecting the environment in Asturias, acting from an independent position.


ANA’s aims are:

  • To support and encourage the study and conservation of the natural resources of Asturias, in order to avoid the destruction of the natural, urban and rural environments as a result of the abusive and irrational explotation of our heritage.
  • To cooperate with public bodies and institutions as well as private ones which may provide solutions whithin their own fields to any sort of environmental problem.
    To support and aid all sorts of claims conductive to improving the conservation status of the natural heritage and quality of life of the people of Asturias.
  • To raise public awareness of environmental issues through educational activities at schools, lectures, film shows, field trips, competitions and contest, as well as any other means which contribute to a deeper knowledge and understanding of nature.
  • To contribute to the widespread knowledge of scientific and technical work as well opinion about environmental matters by means of various kinds of publications (like Asturnatura) or any other means of public communication.
